Who We Are

We are a family farm operated currently by three generations of Luhmans. David, who grew up on a farm his entire life purchased this farm in the 1960's and continues to work today. Jon, the current owner has developed it into a sustainable and organic farm. Jared recently graduated from the University of Minnesota and is excited to be back home farming and doing what he loves.

Crops

We raise all organic crops which means our production methods are very different than that of the average farmer. We rely on mechanical weed control methods rather than chemical and practice crop rotations and cover crops to aid in pest protection and building soil biology.

Cattle

David and Jon have been raising registered Red Angus cattle for years and recently in 2014 when Jared graduated, he added registered Hereford to the mix. We select for moderate framed, easy fleshing, structurally sound, cows with volume and capacity to turn poor quality forage into quality beef. Our cattle are not fed any grain and we believe this low input model of raising cattle helps keep ourselves as well as those who purchase our genetics profitable.

Diversity and Soil Regeneration

We have developed a system of integrating livestock into the farming operation in order to build soil fertility and diversify our operation. By diversifying our operation we are stronger in times of adversity in the agricultural industry due to lack of dependence on one form of income. And by becoming more self-sustainable we have reduced our dependence on outside inputs for success.
